12-29-1969 Boston, MA – Boston Tea Party (#126)

Set List: Cold Rain & Snow, Mama Tried, Black Peter, Easy Wind,Me & My Uncle, China Cat> I Know You Rider, High Time, Mason’s Children, Cumberland Blues, Casey Jones, Good Lovin’, Dancin’ in the Streets, Dire Wolf, Saint Stephen, Not Fade Away

This is a great sounding recording, with some recording issues only in the way of the taper stops recording between some of the songs, and then starts again only after they start playing. So the beginning of some songs are cut off. The band complains about some buzzing coming from some lights, and they joke that their getting shocks from the microphones. The band is playing very tight and the jamming keeps coming with each song, a good ” Black Peter” through “High Time” and even an excellent ” Mason’s” jam. A surprising “Dancin’ in the Streets” pops up at the tail end of the show. Bobby calls out to everyone to get up, form a line and dance as the song moves into a jam, but then they slow it to a glacial pace, and seem to zone out for most of the song before getting the groove again. They finish the show out with an 11 minute “Not Fade Away”, and when it does, they tune for 2 minutes before the tape ends.

Highlight: Mason’s Children

Recommendation: A good Lovelightless show.
